The campaign concludes with a mid-credits scene revealing the return of Vladimir Makarov , setting the stage for the events of Modern Warfare III .
While reclaiming a missile from an oil rig, the team is betrayed by General Shepherd and Phillip Graves , leader of the private military group Shadow Company . Shepherd admits he lost the missiles in an "off-the-books" operation and is attempting to cover his tracks by eliminating the witnesses—Task Force 141.
Post-launch story content continued through "Raids," which are canon missions that follow Task Force 141 as they infiltrate a secret Soviet bunker to stop a new threat.
