Born in Vărbilău, Prahova County, Luncă began her career in the late 1950s, quickly rising to become a star of the Romanian folk scene. Her success was unparalleled; at the height of her career, she reportedly earned more in a single night than a typical factory worker earned in a month. Her collaboration with her husband, accordionist Ion Onoriu, became one of the most celebrated partnerships in Romanian music history. A Life-Changing Transition

In 1990, Luncă and Onoriu organized the largest urban lăutărească concert in Romanian history at the Dinamo stadium in Bucharest. However, shortly after this peak, she made a radical choice to withdraw from secular music.
