"Mr. Torture" is a standout power metal anthem by the German band Helloween, serving as the second single from their darker, ninth studio album, The Dark Ride (2000). Written by drummer Uli Kusch, the song is renowned for its juxtaposition of heavy, "machine gun" guitar riffs with a catchy, singable chorus. Despite its aggressive title, the song’s inspiration is more "tongue-in-cheek" than truly dark. The lyrics were inspired by late-night television sex advertisements the band members saw while recording in the studio. The lyrics tell a story about a professional dominator who charges money for his services and suggests a modern "cyber-torture" concept involving 1-800 numbers, which is a fan-favorite for Andi Deris's high-note performance.
