Set in 1892, the story follows Captain Joseph Blocker (Christian Bale), a legendary Army officer harboring a deep-seated hatred for Native Americans . For his final mission, he is ordered to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief, Yellow Hawk (Wes Studi), and his family from New Mexico back to their ancestral lands in Montana .
