In the render, the Elias on the screen turned around to look at the "camera."

The screen went pitch black. The smell of ozone and burnt silicon filled the room. As Elias reached for his phone to call for help, he realized the glow from his monitor hadn't fully died. It was still there, a tiny, flickering light deep inside the glass, where a rendered version of his own apartment door was slowly, silently swinging open.

"The lobby," Elias typed, his hands shaking. "Hyper-realistic. Sunset."

The installation was strangely fast. No splash screen, no license agreement—just a black icon appearing on his desktop. When he launched it, the interface was bone-chillingly minimalist. There were no sliders for "Light" or "Texture," only a single input field: What do you want to see?

Desperation led him to a flickering, ad-filled corner of the internet. The headline promised everything:
