Despite the assassin's death, one of his traps succeeds. He had hidden a bomb inside an FBI agent's walkie-talkie, which detonates and kills a scientist along with three agents.

Philip and Elizabeth eventually track the assassin to a hotel. During a gunfight, Elizabeth tosses a bomb back at him, causing him to accidentally blow himself up.

To buy time and force the FBI to protect the targets, the Jennings plant a bomb in a scientist's car, making it easy to find so the FBI will move the scientists to safe houses.
