The story follows Angéla (Karina), an exotic dancer at the Zodiac Club in Paris who becomes fixated on having a child. Her boyfriend, Émile (Brialy), is unwilling to comply, leading to a series of comedic and domestic disputes. In a desperate attempt to move Émile, Angéla turns to his best friend, Alfred (Belmondo), who is more than willing to assist. The film concludes with a reconciliation between Angéla and Émile and a famous bit of wordplay: after Émile calls her "infamous" ( infâme ), she retorts, "No, I am a woman" ( je suis une femme ).
