National Police Tactical units ( Nationella insatsstyrkan ) were already in Umeå acting on a tip that a major robbery was imminent.
On May 24, 2009, a group of armed men attempted to rob the Loomis cash processing center in Umeå. This event is considered one of Sweden's most dramatic rån (robberies) due to the heavy gunfire and the direct involvement of elite police units.
A violent shootout erupted outside the depot. During the exchange, one of the robbers was shot and injured, and a police dog was killed.
