Walter Bishop realizes that Roy was a test subject in one of his past experiments with William Bell. Roy was injected with an iridium-based compound designed to allow humans to transmit and receive brain waves. Instead of seeing the future, Roy is actually intercepting secret transmissions—a "ghost network"—being used by terrorists.
